Question 1

What's on the Reading Test?

Accepted Answer

Four parts, about 55 to 60 minutes. Reading Correspondence (an email plus a response), Reading to Apply a Diagram, Reading for Information, and Reading for Viewpoints. All multiple choice. Question counts vary by part.

Question 2

I run out of time on Reading. What do I do?

Accepted Answer

Skim the questions before reading the passage. Most questions reference specific paragraphs or lines, so you can scan rather than read end-to-end. Practice with the on-screen reading interface, not paper, because the eye-tracking habits transfer poorly.

Question 3

Do I need a big vocabulary to score well?

Accepted Answer

Less than you'd think. The Reading Test rewards understanding context and inference more than rare-word recognition. Most failed questions trace back to misreading the question stem, not unknown words. Read questions twice before scanning the passage.

Question 4

How do I prepare for Reading to Apply a Diagram?

Accepted Answer

This part trips people up because it asks you to match information between an ad, schedule, or notice and a follow-up email. Practice with timetables, real estate listings, and event posters. The skill is locating one specific detail under time pressure, not reading comprehension in the literary sense.
